The highest standards

Peter aims to bring a certain excellence to all of his work. With skills passed down from master craftsmen in Germany to his father, and on to Peter himself, he believes in doing every job to the highest standard. The German method of furniture restoration and repair is so thorough that it could almost be considered overkill. However, Peter believes that doing the job properly the first time is worth the effort.

With jobs such as vintage furniture repair, antique restoration and furniture polishing, it needs to be done to a high standard. Peter isn’t in the market of making mass-produced, cheap furniture items. It’s about crafting, restoring and refining quality products and doing it properly every time.

Quality materials make the difference

With antique furniture restoration becoming almost a lost art, sourcing the right materials can be difficult. That’s why Peter has a network of sources all over the globe. Most of his materials come from France, England and other parts of Europe. He also uses products made in Australia.

Each job is unique and calls for different materials and treatment, which is why Peter’s material sources are spread far and wide. Classic, vintage furniture requires only the finest materials when being restored, and Peter believes in doing things right.

Quality restoration

As Peter’s father used to say, “Anybody can put a cover on something and it looks good. But it is what’s underneath the cover that’s important.” Peter still lives by this ethos every day. Regardless of whether he’s working on vintage chair restoration or repairing more modern furniture, Peter understands that a little bit of carpentry in any item can have it lasting longer.

One of the joys in Peter’s work is working for heritage properties. People can get quite emotional when seeing a restored piece of their history in front of them. It’s this sort of appreciation that fuels Peter’s desire to do exceptional work that really lasts. Beautiful furniture should be enjoyed by generations, and Peter can make that happen.

Our History

WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

Many years ago, Peter’s father began learning the craft of furniture repair and restoration in Germany, his home at the time. He worked with a number of expert craftsmen, learning the furniture and upholstery trade to the highest standard possible. Following the war, he relocated to Northern Victoria. While he worked there for several years, work became more difficult to find as time went by. Deciding to try something new, Peter’s father relocated his family to Warrnambool. In Warrnambool, Peter’s father worked for a furniture store for a number of years, however he was frustrated being unable to truly explore his craft to the standard he was taught. As such, a decision was made to be true to his craft and branch out into his own business.

The Start of a New Business

With new possibilities on the horizon, Peter’s father ran his upholstery and furniture business for a number of years. He was now able to truly use his skills and create work of the highest standard. At the age of 15, Peter became his apprentice – and who better to learn from than his father who had become a master of his trade.
Unfortunately, Peter’s father passed away and at the age of 17, Peter took over the family business. Having learned from his father, Peter was able to develop his own skills and maintain the reputation for quality his father had worked so hard to build.

From Australia to the world

Peter has now run the business for almost 40 years, focussing his attention on the same sort of craftsmanship his father had instilled in him. In those years, Peter has built an impressive international clientele, working with customers in Houston, Texas, Hong Kong and Singapore. He also performs regular work for clients all over Australia, such is his reputation for furniture restoration, antique repair and upholstery.
